Led by senior Wally Workman, Shawnee Mission East rolls to Kansas 6A bowling title
Led by a state-championship individual performance from Wally Workman, the Shawnee Mission East boys bowling team rolled to a Kansas Class 6A title at Northrock Lanes in Wichita on Thursday.
Brady Aebersold placed sixth and Jack Shelton ninth for the Lancers, who accumulated 3,363 pins to runner-up Derby’s 3,265 in the single-day competition. Junction City, Garden City and Olathe Northwest rounded out the top five.
“I think a lot of people doubted us, but we never doubted ourselves,” Aebersold, like Workman, a senior, told KSHSAA Covered’s Brent Maycock. “We just came in the whole time thinking we were the No. 1 team and put in the most work. Our mindset going into these meets was winning one after another and just building off each other.”
Junction City won the girls 6A title, and Campus’ Madison Walker took home the girls 6A individual title. The Class 5-1A competition took place Friday — Topeka-Seaman claimed the boys team crown, with Cody Metz of Washington County placing first; Seaman also took the girls title, with Great Bend’s Kaylin Wahlmeier winning the 5-1A individual championship.
