Drexel High School, playing with nearby Miami, beat Worth County/Northeast Nodaway 48-42 Thursday night at Faurot Field for the Missouri 8-man football championship.

The game on the University of Missouri campus was close throughout, but Drexel rallied to overcome a 28-26 halftime deficit.

The Bobcats ended the season a perfect 13-0, while the loss was the first of the year for Worth County (13-1).

Jacob Coffey scored four rushing touchdowns for the team from Cass County. His last touchdown of the evening broke a 42-42 tie in the fourth quarter and accounted for the final points of the game.

Corey Cumpton’s final-minute interception, with Worth County at the goal line and looking poised to score, sealed it for Drexel.

Drexel advanced to the state final last week with a 56-28 victory over King City/Union Star. Before that, the Bobcats beat Archie, Jasper and Osceola to advance to the state semifinals.
