Olathe West is the state champion in boys soccer for 2021 in Kansas’ largest-high schools classification.

Blue Valley Southwest added to its own trophy case with another Class 5A state title in Wichita.

And Bishop Miege is now a six-time defending state champion, going to overtime to defeat Wichita Trinity 1-0 for the Class 4-1A hardware.

Class 6A

Olathe West’s Owls (13-7-1) knocked off previously unbeaten Washburn Rural 1-0 in overtime to claim the coveted 6A trophy at the College Boulevard Activity Center in Olathe.

Ellyes Ellouz scored the golden goal with just over four minutes remaining in the first and only overtime period.

The Owls wrap up their season with 13 wins and a title. Washburn Rural had not yet lost in 2021 and concludes the season at 19-1-0.

It was an incredible run through the state tourney for Olathe West, a school that had just opened its doors in 2017. The Owls beat Wichita North 2-1 in Friday’s semifinals at CBAC to reach Saturday’s finale.

Class 5A

The theme of exciting endings to this boys soccer season across Kansas continued a couple hours south of Olathe, down Interstate-35 in Wichita.

Blue Valley Southwest claimed the Class 5A title with a 3-2 victory over Maize South in the Class 5A championship game at the Stryker Complex .

BV Southwest, which exited the state tournament early last season but had previously won three straight state titles, got the decisive goal in the second half from Sam Michael.

At halftime, it was tied — Maize South 2, Timberwolves 2 — thanks to two goals from Baha Ibrahim. He scored his first four minutes into the game and his second about 12 minutes later.

Blue Valley Southwest finishes with a record of 17-1-3. Maize South’s season ends at 18-2-1.

Class 4-1A

The Class 4-1A final between Bishop Miege and Wichita’s Trinity Academy, contested at Topeka’s Hummer Park, was tied 1-1 after regulation and went to overtime.

Miege (13-8-0) got its regulation goal from Victor Lopez in the 39th minute of the game. Trinity (15-6) scored an equalizer shortly after and it was tied at 1 at intermission.

The second half was scoreless and then came some fierce overtime drama, with Miege’s Mauricio Salas nailing a penalty kick after a handball in the box.

Salas’ clutch goal lifted the Stags to their sixth straight championship.

Earlier Saturday, Class 4-1A Tonganoxie, Class 5A St. Thomas Aquinas and Class 6A Blue Valley Northwest all won their respective games for third place.
