Lee’s Summit West wins Missouri Class 5 volleyball semifinal, plays for title on Friday

Lee’s Summit West will play for a Missouri championship in high school volleyball on Friday.

The Titans beat Rock Bridge in three sets during Thursday’s MSHSAA Class 5 state semifinals at the Show Me Center on the Southeast Missouri State campus in Cape Girardeau.

Rock Bridge did not go down without a fight in the final set, but Lee’s Summit West prevailed 25-20, 25-19, 28-26.

The victory sends the Titans into the state-championship match in Cape Girardeau at noon Friday against Cor Jesu Academy, a three-set winner Thursday over St. Dominic in Thursday’s other Class 5 semifinal.

In other semifinal matches early Thursday at the Show Me Center, Class 4 Pembroke Hill lost 25-20, 25-20, 25-11 to Logan-Rogersville to move into a late-afternoon match for third place against Nerinx Hall.

Pembroke claimed third place with a 25-21, 25-20, 25-17 victory.

Notre Dame de Sion lost hotly contested Class 3 semifinal, 25-21, 21-25, 25-14, 25-10, to Strafford and later fell 25-22, 25-14, 25-15 to Valle Catholic in the match for third place.
