913 area high school football: Week 4 review
SUNFLOWER LEAGUE
1. Shawnee Mission East (4-0, 3-0)
Last week: defeated Shawnee Mission West 42-19
Wyatt Edmonton ran for four of the Lancers’ five touchdowns and Jackson Gossick added another. The Lancers have outscored opponents 171-35.
2. Olathe North (4-0, 3-0)
Last week: defeated Shawnee Mission South 49-0
The Eagles’ offense finally broke free after three weeks of one-possession victories. Cole Murphy threw for three touchdowns and Venus Triplett ran for two.
3. Olathe South (3-1, 2-1)
Last week: defeated Olathe Northwest 35-14
Jeff Gourley’s Falcons bounced back from a one-point double overtime loss to Olathe North with this double-digit victory.
4. Olathe East (3-1, 2-1)
Last week: defeated Shawnee Mission North 31-14
Since losing their first game in Week 2, the Hawks have rattled off two consecutive Sunflower League victories.
5. Olathe Northwest (2-2, 2-1)
Last week: lost to Olathe South 35-14
The Ravens ended a two-game winning streak in the league to drop to .500 on the season with their first loss in conference play.
6. Lawrence Free State (2-2, 2-2)
Last week: lost to Leavenworth 35-21
Joe Lane ran for two touchdowns, but the special teams struggled and gave up a pair of kickoff returns for touchdowns.
7. Lawrence (2-2, 2-1)
Last week: defeated Shawnee Mission Northwest 40-18
The Chesty Lions bounced back from a rivalry game loss to Lawrence Free State. It was the first time this season they scored more than 21 points.
8. Leavenworth (2-2, 1-2)
Last week: defeated Lawrence Free State 35-21
Juwan Potts helped deliver the Pioneers’ first Sunflower League victory with two kickoff returns and a receiving touchdown.
9. Shawnee Mission South (1-3, 1-3)
Last week: lost to Olathe North 49-0
The Raiders gave up an interception return, a punt return and a five offensive touchdowns as they were shutout for the first time this season.
10. Shawnee Mission West (1-3, 1-3)
Last week: lost to Shawnee Mission East 42-19
The Vikings may have lost this rivalry game, but their 19 points were the most scored against the undefeated Lancers so far this season.
11. Shawnee Mission Northwest (1-3, 1-2)
Last week: lost to Lawrence 40-18
Shawnee Mission Northwest lost its second game in a row after a two-point victory against Shawnee Mission North in Week 2.
12. Shawnee Mission North (0-4, 0-4)
Last week: lost to Olathe East 31-14
The Indians continue to fight for their first victory of the season after their second-highest scoring effort of the season.
EASTERN KANSAS LEAGUE
1. Bishop Miege (4-0, 4-0)
Last week: defeated St. Thomas Aquinas 37-20
Kansas commit Ryan Willis threw for three touchdowns and ran for another to help the Stags knock off their undefeated rival.
2. Blue Valley (3-1, 2-1)
Last week: defeated Blue Valley Southwest 45-7
William Evans and Colton McCumber helped the Tigers bounce back from a Week 3 loss as each scored a pair of rushing touchdowns.
3. Blue Valley West (3-1, 2-1)
Last week: defeated Gardner Edgerton 42-21
The Jaguars showed their power in the ground game and scored four rushing touchdowns. They also had one through the air and a 65-yard punt return by Sam Davis.
4. St. Thomas Aquinas (3-1, 2-1)
Last week: lost to Bishop Miege 37-20
The Saints suffered their first loss of the season to their undefeated rival. Karter Odermann threw for two touchdowns.
5. Blue Valley Southwest (3-1, 2-1)
Last week: lost to Blue Valley 45-7
The Timberwolves gave up 45 unanswered points before a one-yard TD run by Collin Gallery and suffered their first loss of the season.
6. Blue Valley Northwest (2-2, 1-2)
Last week: defeated Blue Valley North 30-14
Miles Alexander scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and Zack Zegunis threw for two more as the Huskies bounced back from a 35-7 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas.
7. Blue Valley North (0-4, 0-4)
Last week: lost to Blue Valley Northwest 30-14
The Mustangs are still winless this season, but have scored 14 points or more in each of their first four games.
8. Gardner Edgerton (0-4, 0-3)
Last week: lost to Blue Valley West 42-21
The Trailblazers are still searching for their first victory and have been outscored 160-46 in their first four losses, which includes two shutouts.
OTHERS
1. St. James Academy (3-1, IND)
Last week: lost to Jefferson City Helias 21-0
St. James Academy gave up three rushing touchdowns and was shutout in its first loss of the season.
2. De Soto (2-2, 1-1)
Last week: defeated Tonganoxie 36-14
After a pair of shutouts in Weeks 2 and 3, De Soto picked up its first league victory and improved to .500 on the year.
3. Spring Hill (1-3, 0-3)
Last week: lost to Baldwin 21-14
Brad Smith and Brandon Dofat each ran for a touchdown in the first half, but Spring Hill gave up 21 unanswered points after the break.
4. Mill Valley (1-3, 0-0)
Last week: defeated Southwest ECC 72-6
The Jaguars picked up their first victory of the season in dominant fashion. They scored 59 points in the first half.
