Dorian Bailey and Dalton Schoen put the pedal to the metal and enjoyed a successful ride through high school.
Now Bailey and Schoen are raring to get off to a good start in college after being selected The Star’s Scholar-Athlete overall male and female winners for the 2014-15 school year.
Bailey graduated with an average grade of better than 95 percent in her classes at St. Teresa’s Academy, which doesn’t have class ranks. She led St. Teresa’s to the Missouri Class 4 girls soccer state title and was the 2014 Missouri Gatorade Player of the Year. She participated in the school’s Science, Rotary Interact and Student Community Organization clubs.
Schoen ranked 28th in a senior class of 389 at Blue Valley Northwest with a 4.45 grade-point average. He set a state record for receiving yards in a football game with 380 and was part of a two-time basketball state champion team. Schoen was a student representative for the Blue Valley School District Student Advisory Council and volunteered for First Downs for Downs Syndrome and the Special Olympics.
Now, they are hitting the fast lane.
On Tuesday, Bailey leaves for the University of North Carolina, where she will take summer classes and work out with the women’s soccer team. Schoen is taking classes at Kansas State and is part of the football team as an invited walk-on.
