BISHOP MIEGE
▪ Residence: Winston-Salem, N.C.
▪ Currently: Assistant volleyball coach at Wake Forest University
▪ Family: Single
▪ High school: Ranked fourth in class of 198 with a 4.57 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. Earned three letters in volleyball and three in track. Helped volleyball team to three state championships and was the East Kansas League most valuable player. Placed in the top eight at track state meet three times. Secretary of Student Council, Kansas Honors Scholar and took part in Mexico mission trip.
▪ College: Majored in marketing and sports management at University of Kansas and later received her master’s degree in health and fitness psychology. Played volleyball all four years and was chosen the Big 12 Conference Sportsperson of the Year in 2008, given annually to a male and female student-athlete who best personified excellence both on and off the athletic field. She was asked to speak at the funeral of former KU athletic director Bob Frederick.
▪ Sports now: Formerly worked with KC Power volleyball teams and coached for five years. Stays fit by taking walks with her dog.
▪ Scholar-Athlete memory: “I know it sounds cliché, but there's nothing like throwing out that first pitch at Kauffman Stadium. To be able to go out now, with how good the Royals are today, and think I once stood out there ... that's pretty cool.”
