Bishop Miege shuts out De Soto 2-0 for third place in Kansas Class 4-1A girls soccer tournament
Bishop Miege rebounded from a semifinal loss to beat DeSoto 2-0 in the third-place game of the Class 4-1A girls soccer tournament Saturday.
“Yes, we are disappointed about not completing our ultimate goal, but fortunately we were able to bounce back and get focused for today,” Miege coach Nate Huppe said. “Today was all about trying to send our two seniors out with a win.”
Abbie Hair helped lead Miege to victory, scoring and assisting on the game’s only goals. Hair scored the game’s first point on a right corner kick at the 38-minute mark. Later in the second half Hair assisted on a left corner kick scored by Danielle Jokerst.
With a 16th win, Miege becomes the second team in the program’s 29 years — last since 1994 — to accomplish the feat.
“Even though we fell short of our ultimate goal of winning the state title we had one heck of a season,” Huppe said. “We had one of the hardest leagues in the state. Four out of eight teams made it here. Overall this was a fantastic year. We have a ton of young talent returning.”
Miege’s shutout marked the team’s 15th of the season, a school record. The previous record for shutouts was 13, which was held by the 1994 team.
