Bishop Miege, De Soto fall in Class 4-1A state semifinals

Bishop Miege fell short of reaching the Class 4A-1A girls soccer championship game after losing to Topeka-Hayden 1-0 in double overtime on Friday.

Despite and outstanding game from Miege goalie Zoey Slettenhaugh, who had seven saves, Hayden was able to find the left side of the corner to close the game. Despite the loss coach Nate Huppe had high praise for his goalie.

“She’s been the best goalie in the state all year,” Huppe said.

As for Saturday’s third-place matchup against De Soto, Huppe said: “Our goal was to play in tomorrow’s state final. We didn’t come here to lose two games.”

Bishop Miege fell to 15-5-0 on the season.

McPherson 2, De Soto 0

The Wildcats failed to find the back of the net and dropped to 14-5-1 on the season.
