Bishop Miege boys will play for state soccer title
The Bishop Miege boys rolled past Thomas More Prep in the Kansas Class 4-1A state soccer tournament semifinals on Friday.
Miege scored four first-half goals and added one in the second half to make it a 5-0 win at Piper High.
Miege will face Buhler on Saturday at Piper at 2 p.m. for the state title.
Buhler advanced with a 2-1 win over KC Christian, which will face Thomas More in Saturday’s third-place game.
Class 6A: Olathe East cruised past Derby 3-0 in the semifinals at College Boulevard Activity Center. Olathe East will face Manhattan for the state championship on Saturday after Manhattan knocked off Shawnee Mission East in a heart-breaker for the Lancers. SM East lost 1-0 in overtime. The game went to a shootout and SM East fell short, 4-3 on penalty kicks. SM East will play Derby in the third-place game.
Class 5A: Blue Valley Southwest will also play for a state championship. BV Southwest rolled to a 4-0 win over Bishop Carroll at Hummer Sports Complex in Topeka.. BV Southwest will face Maize South in Saturday’s championship match. Maize South knocked out St. James 1-0 in overtime. This game was decided on penalty kicks, as St. James fell just short, 5-4 in the PK shootout.
