These heavy hitters will meet with a chance to move ahead in the EKL standings. Blue Valley, the defending Kansas Class 5A state champion which moved to 6A this year, is coming off a 30-13 victory against Blue Valley West. Bishop Miege, which was dropped to Class 4A, has two EKL wins already and has scored 80 points.
Prediction: Blue Valley 30, Bishop Miege 27
Olathe South (2-0) at Olathe North (2-0)
One of the week’s most intriguing matchups will be Olathe South and Olathe North at the Olathe District Activity Center where both schools will try to stay undefeated. Olathe North came into the season with a lot of hype but has settled for close victories in the first two weeks. Olathe South, on the other hand, has come out unexpectedly strong with victories against Hutchinson and Olathe East.
Prediction: Olathe South 35, Olathe North 30
Blue Valley Northwest (1-1) at St. Thomas Aquinas (2-0)
Randy Dreiling has the Saints off to a nice start in his first season at the helm but they will get a big challenge tonight. The Huskies have an explosive offense mostly due to Miles Alexander who rushed for four touchdowns last week despite playing behind an inexperienced offensive line.
Prediction: Blue Valley Northwest 27, St. Thomas Aquinas 21
St. James Academy (2-0) at De Soto (1-1)
St. James has come out strong to start the season with victories against Pleasant Hill and Wyandotte. The Thunder has also been consistent scoring 35 and 36 points in the first two games. De Soto has been the opposite scoring 70 points in week one before getting shutout by Paola last Friday.
Prediction: St. James Academy 35, De Soto 14
Shawnee Mission South (1-1) at Olathe East (1-1)
Both teams come in looking for a victory after losses in week two. Shawnee Mission South ran into Shawnee Mission East and lost 48-10. Olathe East fell to Olathe South and will have to focus on the game as senior linebacker James McGinnis remains hospitalized after collapsing last week.
Prediction: Olathe East 21, Shawnee Mission South 17
