A bevy of Suburban Conference teams begin league play Friday. That heightens the allure of several marquee matchups.

On that note, we’ll start this week’s picks with a key Suburban Gold Conference game between Blue Springs South and Raymore-Peculiar.

And just so you know, I’ve officially put Platte County on upset alert. The unbeaten Pirates visit Park Hill South tonight.

Last week’s record: 5-1

Season record: 12-7

Keep the momentum rolling into Week 4...

• Blue Springs South (0-3) at Raymore-Peculiar (2-1)

Ray-Pec running back Isaiah Truss has emerged as an early candidate for Simone Award honors. He has run for seven touchdowns in just three weeks. Blue Springs South has stumbled through a bevy of injuries in an atypical 0-3 start.

Prediction: Raymore-Peculiar 31, Blue Springs South 21

• Platte County (3-0) at Park Hill South (1-2)

Park Hill South set its sights on getting off to a better start this season. Ah, it was close. But the Panthers gave up a three-score lead in the fourth quarter to Raytown South last week. Platte County has started unbeaten, but this week marks its toughest test yet.

Prediction: Park Hill South 17, Platte County 14

• Truman (1-2) at Ruskin (1-2)

Who would’ve thunk it? Either Truman or Ruskin will reach the .500 mark through four weeks tonight. Truman was winless last season. Ruskin has won only two games in three seasons.

Prediction: Truman 31, Ruskin 20

• Belton (1-2) at Grandview (1-2)

Belton has shown signs that the program is on the rise, even if the record doesn’t reflect that. Grandview is only a couple of plays away from a 3-0 start. Its two losses came by a combined 12 points.

Prediction: Belton 35, Grandview 28

• Center (3-0) at Lincoln Prep (2-1)

A pair of defending conference champions. Center is quietly building one of the most reputable programs in the West Central Conference. The Yellowjackets are searching for their third straight eight-win season. Lincoln Prep is the defending Interscholastic League champions.

Prediction: Center 28, Lincoln Prep 21
