KC area high school football schedule for Sept. 12-13
Here are two games in the spotlight on Friday’s Kansas City area high school football schedule:
TRUMAN (1-2) AT RUSKIN (1-2)
A pair of programs that have been bottom feeders in the Suburban Red Conference evidently are ready to change that.
After three weeks, Truman already has surpassed last season’s win total. Ruskin has already matched its 2013 output. One of the programs will reach .500 Friday night.
Truman has scored 103 points through three weeks, which is 33 more than it scored in all of 2013. Why the sudden surge? The answer is a dominant rushing attack. Tre’Von Sorrells and Jordan Salima combined for more than 400 rushing yards in last week’s win at St. Joseph Central.
Ruskin has shown its biggest improvement on defense under first-year coach Kiwaukee Thomas, a former NFL defensive back. The Eagles are still looking to gather some momentum on offense.

BLUE VALLEY WEST (1-0) AT BLUE VALLEY (1-0)
Although it is early, this game between perennial powers could have big implications in the Eastern Kansas League race.
Blue Valley is the Kansas Class 5A defending state champion and is a favorite to win the league title. Blue Valley West, though, is not far behind. The Jaguars are looking to make a deeper run into the playoffs after advancing to at least the quarterfinals the last two years.
A little more fire should come from the fact that Blue Valley edged the Jaguars by five points last season in the state semifinals. BV West QB Zev Mallin threw for three touchdowns last week. AJ Totta will be a threat on the ground for Blue Valley after rushing for two TDs last week.
