After receiving 22 offers, William Chrisman senior Daniel Carson commits to Texas

Over the past 12 months, nearly two dozen Division I football programs presented William Chrisman senior Daniel Carson with an opportunity to play at the next level.

He whittled that number down to one on Friday.

Carson, a three-star defensive end on Rivals.com, committed to Texas, announcing the news on his Twitter account on his 18th birthday.

“On this day 18 years ago, Daniel Alexander Lamonte Carson was born. Today, I will defy these odds and embark on a new journey that will (affect) the rest of my life,” Carson wrote.

Carson collected offers from all three local programs — Missouri, Kansas State and Kansas — and had opportunities from powerhouses such as Ohio State and Oklahoma. He visited Nebraska earlier this month, leading many to believe it could be his school of choice.

But during a earlier visit to Texas in September, Carson watched a Longhorns game, and they became the front-runner.

“I had something in mind going on visits — the atmosphere and just making sure I felt comfortable (besides) football,” Carson said in a phone interview. “They really welcomed me on my official visit. My mom really enjoyed herself, too. It was just the best fit for me.”

Carson, who Rivals ranks as the eighth-best recruit in Missouri, had 73 tackles, six sacks and 17 tackles for loss in his senior season. He forced three fumbles and returned two fumbles for touchdowns. He was named to The Star’s All-Metro first team.
