The Star’s high school athletes of the week (April 16)

Alyvia Simmons

SCHOOL: Blue Valley Northwest

YEAR: Senior

SPORT: Softball

Simmons went 11-for-13 with four triples and three doubles across two double headers last week. The senior outfielder also had 13 RBIs and is now batting .850 for the Huskies.

Zack Penrod

SCHOOL: Raytown

YEAR: Senior

SPORT: Track and field

A Wichita State signee, Penrod cruised to two victories at the Jerry Crews Invitational last week. He won the 1,600-meter run by nearly eight seconds, finishing in 4 minutes, 26.74 seconds. He also won the 800-meter run by five seconds (1:59.42). Penrod finished in the top-eight in both events at the Missouri Class 4 state meet last spring.
