DiRenna Award high school basketball finalists are announced

Five boys and five girls high school basketball players have been announced as finalists for the DiRenna Award, which spotlights the city’s most outstanding male and female basketball players, as selected by the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Association.

The winners will be announced at the GKCBCA All-Star Challenge Awards Show, which begins at 7 p.m. on April 9 at the Ritz Charles in Overland Park, Kan.

The boys finalists are: Anthony Bonner, senior, Lawrence; Alston Jones, senior, Bishop Miege; Drew Lock, senior, Lee’s Summit; Kevin Puryear, senior, Blue Springs South; and Landry Shamet, senior, Park Hill.

The girls finalists are Rachel Blackburn, senior, Leavenworth; Kierra Collier, sophomore, Truman; Claire Ferguson, senior, St. Thomas Aquinas; Madeline Homoly, senior, Bishop Miege; and Tyler Johnson, senior, Leavenworth.

In addition to the DiRenna Award, the GKCBCA All-Star Challenge all-star teams will be recognized at the April 9 awards show, as well as several coaching awards.
