Josiah Talbert carried the load early, and Javion Blake picked it up on the back end to lead Olathe East to a third-place finish at the Kansas Class 6A state basketball tournament.

Olathe East avenged a regular-season loss to Shawnee Mission North with a 68-63 victory and ended the season with a 19-6 record on Saturday at Wichita State’s Koch Arena.

“I was getting to the free-throw line and getting to the basket easily,” Blake said. “Josiah really set the tempo in the first half, and I wanted to keep it rolling.”

Talbert scored the first eight points of the game for Olathe East and had 12 of the Hawks’ 29 as they entered the locker room. He finished with 19 for the game. Blake scored 10 of his 23 points in a 22-11 run in the third quarter, which effectively put the game away.

Michael Weathers led Shawnee Mission North with 23 points.
