Blue Springs South boys win sectional, aim to snap winless streak in quarterfinals
Blue Springs South is one victory away from its first Missouri Class 5 state tournament semifinal appearance in school history.
The Jaguars pulled away from Jefferson City in the second half for a 57-42 victory on Wednesday in the Missouri Class 5 sectionals at State Fair Community College in Sedalia.
Blue Springs South, 26-2, will meet one-loss Nixa at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo.
“We defended really, really well,” Jaguars coach Jimmy Cain said in a phone interview. “We used multiple defenses and tried to keep them off balance, and the guys did a great job of executing all of it.”
Eventually, the Blue Springs South offense caught up.
The two teams were tied at 20 at halftime before Blue Springs South opened up the game in the second half. Brandon Kilgore had 19 points; Kevin Puryear had 14; and Briley Moore-McKinney added 10.
Blue Springs South is making its fourth trip to the state quarterfinals. The Jaguars are 0-3 in its previous three tries.
