High school football: Eastern Kansas League Week 6 rankings
Here are the Eastern Kansas League football rankings after Week 6, including league record, overall record, last week’s result, this week’s opponent and a comment.
1. Blue Valley (6-0, 6-0)
Beat Blue Valley Southwest, 45-6; Friday at Blue Valley Northwest
The Tigers have won by a combined 84 points in the past two weeks, and continue to roll through their EKL schedule.
2. Bishop Miege (5-1, 5-1)
Beat Mill Valley, 64-21; Friday at Eudora
Miege put on an offensive clinic against the defending Class 5A state champions last week. Landry Weber led the way with four touchdown receptions from Carter Putz; seven different players were involved in touchdowns in the blowout win.
3. St. Thomas Aquinas (5-1, 5-1)
Beat St. James Academy, 24-7; Friday vs. Blue Valley Southwest
With three straight wins, Aquinas has jumped back to the second-best record in the league. Quarterback Will Swanson and receiver Nick Bulleigh led the way last week, connecting on two touchdown passes.
4. Mill Valley (3-3, 3-3)
Lost to Bishop Miege, 64-21; Friday vs. Blue Valley North
A brutal schedule the last three weeks has gotten the better of Mill Valley. The Jaguars, who have been strong offensively all season, couldn’t score enough to keep up with the Miege machine last week.
5. Blue Valley North (3-3, 3-3)
Beat Blue Valley West, 41-0; Friday at Mill Valley
Blue Valley North’s defense has shut out two straight opponents, and won by a combined 76 points in the last two weeks.
6. Gardner Edgerton (3-3, 3-3)
Beat Blue Valley Northwest, 19-13; Friday vs. Blue Valley West
They’re holding steady at a .500 record, but in games decided by 10 points or less, Gardner Edgerton is 3-0.
7. St. James Academy (2-4, 2-4)
Lost to St. Thomas Aquinas, 24-7; Friday at Kapaun-Mt. Carmel
St. James’ only score last week came from a Sammy Wheeler touchdown pass to Jackson Diel, and the Thunder continue to struggle in its first Eastern Kansas League season.
8. Blue Valley Northwest (2-4, 2-4)
Lost to Gardner Edgerton, 19-13; Friday vs. Blue Valley
A week after putting up 42 points in a win, Blue Valley Northwest’s offense stuttered on the way to a 19-13 league loss.
9. Blue Valley West (1-5, 1-5)
Lost to Blue Valley North, 41-0; Friday at Gardner Edgerton
After its opening week 20-17 win against Blue Valley Southwest, Blue Valley West has managed only 21 points combined in its five losses since.
10. Blue Valley Southwest (0-6, 0-6)
Lost to Blue Valley, 45-6; Friday at St. Thomas Aquinas
A matchup with the top EKL team last week, Blue Valley, didn’t do anything to help Blue Valley Southwest get its first win of the season.
