The Star’s high school football players of the week (Sept. 22)
Missouri: Parker Sampson
SCHOOL: Park Hill
YEAR: Senior
In a 34-21 win against Lawrence Free State, Sampson was a difference-maker in the third phase of the game — special teams. He made two field goals, including a 51-yard boot, and converted all four extra points. He also pinned two of his five punts inside the 20-yard line.

Kansas: Michael Maffry
SCHOOL: Blue Valley
YEAR: Senior
Maffry had 16 tackles and four quarterback hurries against Blue Valley North last week. On the first series of the game, he also added an interception, his second pick this year. In Blue Valley’s three wins this season, Maffry has accumulated 42 total tackles, 28 of them solo.
