Sam Stevens and Bryan Norton to play for Kansas Amateur Match Play title

Sam Stevens and two-time Kansas Amateur champ Bryan Norton will square off Sunday for the Kansas Amateur Match Play Championship at Mission Hills Country Club.

Stevens, a graduate of Wichita Kapaun Mount Carmel who’s headed to Oklahoma State, topped former Kansas City Amateur champ Zachary Dittmer 4 and 3 in Saturday’s quarterfinals and then beat Doug Albers 2 and 1 to move into Sunday’s title match. Albers, a Rockhurst grad who played at Boston College, had defeated Tonganoxie native and Missouri-St. Louis golfer Colby Yates 1 up to make it into the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Norton, who’s from Mission Hills, posted a 2 and 1 win over former Lee’s Summit West and current University of Southern Mississippi golfer Ryan Argotsinger before defeating defending champion Chase Hanna, an SM East grad who now plays at KU, 1 up in the semifinals. Hanna had gotten past Trey Herman of Fort Hays State in the quarters.
