A two-time winner, Tom Watson returns to the Heritage
is going back this week to a place he’s had quite a bit of success.
Watson will be playing in the RBC Heritage tournament in Hilton Head, S.C.
Watson is a two-time winner of the event, having captured the title in 1979 and 1982. He is making his 24th appearance at the Heritage, but his first since missing the cut in 2001.
Officals have paired Watson with 20-year-old
Jordan SpiethDavis Love III. They tee off at 11:40 a.m. today and 7:10 a.m. Friday.
Watson said he is playing this week to get a look at potential members of this year’s United States Ryder Cup team. Watson will be the U.S. captain for the Ryder Cup matches in September.
On a blog that he is doing as captain, Watson wrote that he was impressed by
Bubba Watson’swin at The Masters last weekend.
“It was an all around impressive win for Bubba and he’s our first lock for the U.S. Ryder Cup team,” Watson wrote. “He is an unusual player in that he curves every shot, left to right or right to left, and that makes him very interesting to watch. He wants to block out one side or the other and he can do it big time. I like somebody who can control the ball that way.
“Golfers take note: if you can block out one side or the other in every shot you play, you will eliminate a lot of risk as you play.’
