Jim Powell will have to buy another trophy to reward a child for making a hole in one.

Powell’s 7-year-old son Darren Powell of Overland Park made an ace Sept. 27 at Heritage Park in Olathe. He’ll get a trophy just as his 6-year-old sister Lynn Powell did after making an ace on the executive course at Ironhorse Golf Club earlier this year.

“For my daughter to have one and a son to get one is incredible,” said Jim Powell, a golf professional at Prairie Highlands in Olathe.

“They have a sibling rivalry, but he really didn’t talk about getting one after she made hers.”

Powell’s ace came from 86 yards on the sixth hole at Heritage Park. He used a 5-hybrid club.

Making an ace is nothing new for the Powell family. Jim Powell has had eight, and he said Darren has a grandfather who made six and a grandmother who made one.

The aces aren’t the only success in golf the children have had. Lynn has won seven of her last eight U.S. Kids Tour events, Jim Powell said, and Darren has won two of eight.
