It took extra holes to decide it, but Lucas Horseman of Weston and Missouri Western State University won the 2020 Kansas City Amateur championship at Creekmoor Golf Course in Raymore Sunday.

Horseman took the title in style with a playoff eagle.

Horseman, who played at West Platte High School, and Missouri Tigers redshirt sophomore Ross Steelman were tied at 7-under after 36 holes.

Usually spread over three days, the tournament was shortened to two rounds this year because inclement weather had rolled in Friday and soaked the course.

Both players birdied the first playoff hole and re-teed on No. 18 for a second one. Horseman sank a 10-foot putt for eagle, forcing Steelman to make his own putt in hopes of extending the playoff. Steelman missed only barely.

Both Horseman and Steelman shot 67-70—137 for the tourney. Horseman had 14 birdies along the way, Steelman nine and an eagle.

Kit Grove finished third at 3-under followed by Kansas Amateur champion Park Ulrich at 2-under.

Nathan Deadmond won the Players division in a playoff, Steve Groom took the Seniors title and Don Kuehn topped the Legends division.

Next year’s KC Amateur is set for Shoal Creek.
