Topeka’s Rachel Stous takes Prairie Invitational golf title at Shadow Glen Golf Club
With a super start and patience amid a weather delay, Topeka’s Rachel Stous won the 2020 Prairie Invitational Wednesday at Shadow Glen Golf Club in Olathe.
Stous, who finished 11th in last week’s Kansas Women’s Amateur, got her final round started strong with back-to-back birdies. That boost helped her overcome a deficit she carried into the last round of the three-day tourney — she’d carded a 77 Tuesday.
The reigning KCGA/KGA Women’s Player of the Year and Metropolitan Community College golfer made two more birdies on the front nine, bogeyed No. 11 and again went back to back with birdies on Nos. 13 and 15.
Play was suspended due to inclement weather with Stous on the 17 hole, but she finished her round at 3-under — 5-over for the tournament — to beat runner-up Audrey Judd, a Shadow Glen member, by two strokes.
Wichita State golfer Megan Lucas shared third place with former KU golfer Katy Winters, who birdied three straight on Nos. 15, 16, and 17.
Madison Slayton, the tourney’s leader after two rounds, finished tied for fifth with Gianna Augustine.
