One of the first live competitive sports events in the Kansas City area since the COVID-19 pandemic began finished with a flurry of excitement.

Kansas Jayhawks golfer Sera Tadokoro outlasted recent Nebraska Cornhuskers grad and California native Jessica Haraden 2&1 Thursday to win the Kansas City Women’s Match Play championship at Swope Memorial Golf Course.

Tadokoro, a native of Osaka, Japan who will be a senior at KU this fall, advanced decisively to the finale, dispatching her earlier opponents 4&2, 6&5 and 5&4.

In the Silver Bracket, Central Missouri’s Rosie Klausner, a junior-to-be who attended Olathe Northwest High, had a little more breathing room in beating a legitimate titan of amateur golf.

Klausner, from Olathe, jumped out to a 2-0 lead and never looked back in topping seven-time USGA Championship winner Ellen Port 4&3.
