England players feast at staple KCK barbecue joint before third-place game
Team England is getting in all the barbecue they can as their residency in Kansas City comes to a close.
Days before the team headed to Miami for their third place game against France on Saturday, six members of the team paid a visit to Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que on one of their last nights in KC this week. The group visited the restaurant’s classic gas station location, 3002 W. 47th Ave. in Kansas City, Kansas.
The picture Joe’s posted on social media included England players Jude Bellingham, Elliot Anderson, Anthony Gordon, Morgan Rogers, Jordan Henderson and Dan Burn at an outdoors table. In true British fashion, Bellingham was holding a cup of barbecue beans in the photo.
The team has been staying in Prairie Village this summer for its base camp for the World Cup. They’re residing at the Inn at Meadowbrook, which is about an 18-minute drive from Joe’s.
England’s journey to a World Cup victory ended Wednesday when they lost to Argentina in the semifinal. Argentina, who plays in the World Cup final Sunday, also chose KC as its base camp for the summer.
At this point, Joe’s must be a fan-favorite among England players. Ellie Watkins, who is married to England forward Ollie Watkins, shared photos of a stop at Joe’s during England’s break after defeating Mexico in the Round-of-16.
As for what was on the menu, the team looked to be chowing down on onion rings, fries, mac and cheese, and of course some hickory-smoked ribs.
The British held their final practice Friday at Swope Soccer Village. Their third place game is set for 4 p.m. Central Time Saturday in Miami.
