One more banderazo in KC: See when the next Argentine celebration will be
Argentina fans shut down Southwest Boulevard almost a month ago on the eve of Kansas City’s first World Cup match for a pep rally. You can expect something similar this weekend ahead of the final World Cup match in Kansas City.
With Lionel Messi and Argentina playing again in KC for their quarterfinal match against Switzerland Saturday, July 11, Café Corazón, the coffee shop in the Crossroads with Argentine roots, is hosting a final banderazo to celebrate.
In front of their store on 110 Southwest Blvd., you can expect another sea of blue and white to take over Friday, July 10. The free family-friendly event happens between 7 and 11 p.m., and it’s expected to attract thousands.
The celebration highlights Argentine culture, such as their music, dancing and food. Some of the items you available include an Argentine asado, empanadas and alfajores. Guests can also get their hands on beverages such as fernet y coca, along with yerba mate, beer, wine and cocktails.
Pan Caliente KC, a local Argentine bakery that provides treats to the café, will be back for the second banderazo. You can expect them to once again serve choripán, the typical Argentine street food for soccer matches, made using a grilled chorizo sausage with chimichurri tucked in a bread roll.
Soccer-themed art from Argentine artist Natalia Testa will be on display to add on to the World Cup atmosphere.
“Kansas City is turning celeste y blanco,” Café Corazón said on social media. “Join us for a night celebrating Argentina culture with great food, music, fútbol, and comunidad.”
