Colombia played like the heavy favorite and held off Ghana 1-0 in a Round of 32 knockout game at a charged Kansas City (Arrowhead) Stadium on Friday night.
The stands were filled with gold Colombia jerseys with pops of black and red from the Ghanaian fans. All games at Arrowhead have gotten close to capacity, 69,045 fans, and Friday’s Round of 32 match was no exception.
Friday’s crowd created an atmosphere that at times felt closer to a home game for Colombia than a neutral-site knockout match. The chants, drums and songs from Colombian supporters filled the stadium from well before kickoff.
Ghana’s fans made themselves heard, particularly in the second half as the West African side pushed for an equalizer that never came.
