Kansas City’s FIFA Fan Festival closes early Thursday due to severe weather

The party for the Netherlands was cut a lot earlier than they expected Thursday, June 25.

Following the massive Orange Walk that took thousands of fans from the KC Live! Block to the FIFA Fan Festival at the National World War I Museum & Memorial, severe thunderstorm warnings have caused the festival to close early, this time shutting down at 2 p.m.

This message instructed those inside the FIFA Fan Fest Thursday, June 25, stating it’s closing at 2 p.m. Incoming weather prompted the decision to close early.

The festival opened early at noon to accommodate the large crowd, and now the Dutch faithful are searching for where to hang out with hours to go before the 6 p.m. game between the Netherlands and Tunisia at Arrowhead Stadium.

“Due to forecasted adverse weather conditions, FIFA Fan Festival is being cleared as a precaution and will be closed until further notice,” KC 2026 said in a statement. “We advise fans not to travel to FIFA Fan Festival as a result. Fans should follow instructions from event staff on site.”

Despite the early closure announcement plastered on screens across Fan Fest, Netherlands fans are lingering to enjoy a final dance before departing. Their game was scheduled to be broadcast inside the Fan Fest at 6 p.m., with the United States’ match against Turkiye at 9 p.m.

Hip-hop artist Tech N9ne was also scheduled to perform at 8:30 p.m.

This marks the second time the FIFA Fan Festival has closed early due to the weather conditions. It’s unknown if it will reopen today.
