For Netherlands-Tunisia game, Kansas City alters bus routes at FIFA World Cup
ConnectKC26, Kansas City’s bus service for the FIFA World Cup, announced alternate plans for Thursday.
Four locations on the Region Direct service will be suspended for the day, and those buses will be added to the Stadium Direct routes to help get fans to Thursday’s 6 p.m. game between the Netherlands and Tunisia at Kansas City (Arrowhead) Stadium.
The points where service will be temporarily suspended:
- Independence Square
- KC Zoo/Starlight Theatre
- Worlds of Fun
- 3 Trails Transit Center
All other Region Direct routes will operate as usual.
The Stadium Direct routes originate at:
- ConnectKC Bus Mall, 2644 Warwick Trafficway, Kansas City
- Graceway Park and Ride, 8611, E 55th St., Kansas City
- Independence Center Park and Ride, 18801 E. 39th St., Independence
- North Kansas City, 520 East 19th Ave., North Kansas City
- Oak Park Mall Park and Ride, 11855 W. 95th St., Overland Park
- Plaza, 41 Emanuel Cleaver Blvd., Kansas City
Kansas City has been the site of two games. On June 16, there were 18,900 passengers on the Stadium Direct buses to watch Argentina play Algeria. Two of the six sites sold out: Oak Park Mall and North Kansas City.
Combined, buses to the stadium were filled to 77% capacity.
On June 20, when Ecuador met Curacao, 21,500 rode at Stadium Direct bus, and five of the six routes were sold out. Buses were filled to 90% capacity.
