Oranje fans ‘invaded’ Houston’s Dutch Bros coffee shop. Are KC locations next?

Kansas City will be welcoming the Oranje this week in preparation for the Netherlands versus Tunisia World Cup match on Thursday. The team has already seen major support from its fans, who turned Texas into a “sea of Orange” for the team’s first matches in Dallas and Houston.

On Saturday, Houston saw thousands of fans in the “Oranje Fanwalk,” a traditional parade where Dutch fans follow an orange bus to the stadium ahead of each match. Along the parade route was Dutch Bros, a coffee shop franchise that started in Oregon in 2000 and has since made its way across the country.

Videos have gone viral on TikTok and other social media platforms showing the Oranje Parade “invading Dutch Bros” at a Houston location. One X user, @xylauraz, posted a picture of the event captioned, “The Dutch have invaded Dutch Bros,” which has since gone viral with nearly 3 million views.

Corresponding videos show fans crowding the parking lot, and even some on the roof, as they made their way to NRG Stadium. On one of these TikTok videos, the Dutch Bros TikTok page commented, “they made it 🥹,” though the company has not made any public statements on the event.

Founders Dane and Travis Boersma are descendants of Dutch immigrants, though the menu and brand itself do not have many connections to the Netherlands other than the windmill symbol attached to the shop’s logo. The franchise started as a pushcart in Oregon in 1992, and now has over 1,100 locations across the country.

Dutch Bros also has a foundation that donates to community organizations, according to their website.

But is Kansas City Dutch Bros next?

There are about 35 locations across Missouri and Kansas, with several near the downtown Kansas City area.

The Oranje Fanwalk route will begin in the Power & Light District at 11 a.m. Thursday for a celebration until they take off around noon toward the FIFA Fan Festival.

“Kansas City is a city that breathes sport and energy, and the Orange Fanwalk through the city center fits perfectly with that,” Marianne van Leeuwen, Director of KNVB Professional Football, said in a press release about the event.
