  • KC2026 and FIFA will strengthen fan arrival communications and driving directions.
  • Organizers will improve route visibility by aligning directions with Google, Apple, and.
  • KC2026 plans early staffing, KCPD deployment, and ongoing flow adjustments at gates.

The KC2026 planning committee was thrilled with Tuesday night’s World Cup game, which was played in front of a full house at Kansas City Stadium (aka Arrowhead).

But Pam Kramer, the CEO of KC2026, said Friday that the organization knows the process of getting fans to matches must improve before Ecuador plays Curaçao on Saturday night.

That’s why the local group, KC2026, worked with FIFA and the Chiefs to identify solutions for issues that left fans either waiting hours to get to the stadium or ditching their ride and walking.

“Some things that you’ll see coming improved increased communication to fans with parking vests about routes,” Kramer said. “How to enter, where to enter, and then making sure that the people at those gates are equipped to facilitate ingress to make sure people are getting where they need to go without creating new challenges.”

One big issue Tuesday night involved fans who used a rideshare. Most drivers didn’t know that Lot O is the designated spot to drop off fans at KC’s World Cup games.

“When we have people getting out of rideshare in other locations, it creates all sorts of challenges,” Kramer said. “We really need those rideshare partners to communicate that to their drivers, and we need fans, especially those who are from the region, to understand that they are part of the solution here and making their way to the stadium.”

Kramer said her organization was caught off-guard when Argentina fans who were at Fan Fest on Tuesday basically left for Arrowhead en masse at 3 p.m.

“There was a mass exodus of Argentina fans from Fan Fest, and we’re still trying to sort out if there was some sort of fan group communication,” she said. “Everybody left at once, so making sure we’re talking to the supporters and using the supporters and the teams to communicate to fans on how they get to the stadium.”

FIFA said it planned to take action to help streamline arrivals, strengthen directional signage and reduce congestion at gates ahead of upcoming matches.

Those steps include:

  • Strengthening fan arrival communications, driving directions and “Know Before You Go” guidance across FIFA and KC2026 platforms.
  • Improving route visibility and alignment with Google, Apple, and Waze.
  • Enhancing maps, parking guidance, and operational coordination.
  • Early staffing and KCPD deployment at stadium.
  • Additional and ongoing flow adjustments and traffic mitigation strategies

The first test of the revised approach hours away, as Ecuador and Curacao play Saturday at 7 p.m.
