FIFA World Cup

KC FIFA Fan Fest’s opening was delayed on Day 1. Here’s why

Day 1 of Kansas City’s FIFA Fan Fest was set to open at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 11, ahead of the opening World Cup match between Mexico and South Africa.

Fans who walked up the hill near the National World War I Museum and Memorial to be the first to enter had to wait a little bit longer.

KC 2026 announced on social media that entry to Fan Fest had been delayed, but that as of 1:33 p.m., the organization is now letting people in.

“Entry to the FIFA Fan Festival Kansas City is currently delayed due to weather conditions,” the organization said. “Please follow instructions from on-site staff and check official KC2026 channels before traveling.”

Showers and thunderstorms are possible this afternoon in Kansas City, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Festival organizers had previously said that the festival would continue through rain, but thunderstorms or lightning would necessitate closing the event.
