Police remind that Argentina, Messi practice today in KCK is closed to public

Thinking of attending Argentina’s practice today in Kansas City, Kansas? Local police have put up a stop sign.

The KCKPD issued an advisory saying the “regularly scheduled soccer practice for the Argentina National Soccer Team at Compass Mineral Fields is closed to the public and open only to pre-approved, credentialed members of the media, and confirmed guests.”

What prompted the announcement?

“With a lot of fans that are enthusiastic and looking for an opportunity to catch a glimpse of the team, we thought it was a good idea,” said Nancy Chartrand, KCKPD media relations specialist. “Sometimes misinformation gets passed around.

“We’re trying to make sure people know it’s not an open practice.”

Argentina and superstar Lionel Messi arrived in Kansas City earlier this week. Kansas City is the team’s base camp location, and Argentina will train where Sporting KC practices.

Argentina’s first game in the FIFA World Cup is scheduled for June 16 against Algeria at Kansas City Stadium (Arrowhead).
