City of Riverside, KC Current to hold drawings to watch Netherlands practice

If you live in Riverside or are a Kansas City Current season-ticket holder you’ll have an opportunity to watch Dutch soccer team practice here next week.

Riverside is giving away 120 tickets — 60 pairs of two each — to a training session at 10:30 a.m. on June 10 at Riverside Stadium at the KC Current Sports Complex.

Riverside residents at least 18 years old can enter online or in person at City Hall. Twenty winners will be drawn from each of the city’s three wards.

Also, KC Current season ticket holders can enter a drawing for two tickets. Registration for both drawings closes Friday

The Current’s training facility will serve as the training base for the Netherlands during their FIFA World Cup stay, and the Dutch will play one of their group-stage games in Kansas City. On June 25, the Netherlands will face Tunisia.

The first game for the Dutch is June 14 against Japan in Arlington, Texas.

Netherlands, a three-time World Cup finalist, is seventh in the latest FIFA rankings. The Dutch advanced to the quarterfinals in the 2022 World Cup.

The Netherlands is one of four nations holding base camp in the area, joining Argentina and England in Kansas City and Algeria in Lawrence.
