KC Unity Cup is Johnson County’s own version of the World Cup. See the details

Johnson County Parks and Recreation is hosting the inaugural KC Unity Cup, a 7v7 adult mixed gender soccer tournament on June 6 and 7.

The event is sponsored by Capitol Federal and is in partnership with Ethnic Enrichment Commission of Kansas City. It is intended to bring the energy of the World Cup stage to the Johnson County community and to promote diversity and culture in the community, according to a news release from the parks department.

Teams that represent particular countries and cultures will face off in matches throughout the two days. In between games, attendees can enjoy vendors, space to play and relax, and community.

The KC Unity Cup was created to promote diversity and culture “through the universal language of soccer.” Organizers have the teams represent particular countries to show the diverse cultures that are represented in the Kansas City community.

The goal when planning this event was to bring people together through music, food and of course, soccer, organizers said.

The event is held at Heritage Soccer Park, 17255 S. Black Bob Rd., Olathe.

Good news: No tickets are required for this event. Attendance is free and open to everyone.

The event will have various international food vendors for attendees to try out.

There will be open space at the venue for families and attendees to relax and hangout in between games. This space will include an area for kids to play soccer.

Johnson County Parks and Recreation will also be hosting World Cup Watch Parties from June 16 to July 19. The World Cup will be displayed on large screen at Theater in the Park.

Admission is free, but they ask that you register for the event.
