Kansas City gets 12-hour nonstop flight from South American city for World Cup

Argentine fans will be able to get to Kansas City faster for the FIFA Men’s World Cup with this new flight.

South American airline Aerolíneas Argentinas announced two round-trip non-stop flights to Kansas City for Argentina’s match on June 16.

Soccer fans will be able to fly from Buenos Aires directly to Kansas City on June 14 and 15, and back on June 17.

A round trip ticket starts at $2,500 for the almost 12-hour flight, according to the Aerolíneas website.

The World Cup is causing airfare and lodging prices to spike around Kansas City in June.

Typically, economy round trip flights between the Argentine capital and Kansas City cost less than $1,500, according to Google Flights data. They usually include a layover in an American city like Atlanta, Dallas or Houston.

To meet demands, airlines are adding flights so fans can experience the six matches at Arrowhead Stadium.

American Airlines will increase the number of flights to New York and Atlanta for the tournament, Justin Meyer, Deputy Director of Aviation for Kansas City, told The Star last month.

And two round-trip charter flights are expected to run between Curaçao and Kansas City for the Caribbean nation’s June 20 match against Ecuador, the Kansas City Business Journal reported.

Led by international star Lionel Messi, Argentina is vying to become just the third country to win two World Cups in a row.

The team could spend even more time in Kansas City. The Star reported that Argentina is considering choosing Kansas City for its base camp location. This means the team could train at facilities used by Sporting Kansas City, the KC Current or University of Kansas soccer team.
