UMKC can’t hold lead in second half in 79-70 loss to Utah Valley
A couple of second-half scoring spurts by Utah Valley spoiled UMKC’s hopes of victory in the Kangaroos’ 79-70 loss Saturday night.
A three-point play by Dashawn King, who scored 18 points, put UMKC up 50-43 with 13:46 to play. But the Wolverines took the lead with a 15-7 run.
Utah Valley also went on a 7-0 run on a layup by Dayon Goodman, a three-pointer by Konner Frey and a pair of free throws by Jaden Jackson.
Frey and Marcel Davis scored 18 points, and Goodman added 17 for Utah Valley, 12-15 overall and 6-6 in the Western Athletic Conference.
Darnell Tillman and LaVell Boyd each had 12 points for UMKC, 10-17 and 3-9.
Utah Valley outscored UMKC 25-15 from the free-throw line.
