KC Roos men’s basketball outlasts South Dakota; women’s team falls at Swinney Center
The KC Roos picked up their third consecutive win on Thursday, an 82-78 road victory over South Dakota (10-18, 3-10 Summit League) in Vermillion, S.D.
The Roos have struggled on the road this year, entering the matchup just 3-9 away from Swinney Center, but 27 points from Jamar Brown and a season-high 22 from Khristion Courseault set the Roos on the path to a victory.
Cameron Faas also scored in the double-digits Thursday, totaling 11 points with three 3-pointers. Brown also made three 3s and recorded six steals.
Despite the close finish, it didn’t always look that way for the Roos. KC entered halftime with a 40-28 lead after shooting 47.4% from behind the arc to close out the first half.
But the Coyotes began the second period with their eyes on a comeback, outscoring the Roos 50-42 in the frame on 45.8% shooting. But even with Kaleb Stewart’s 25 points — not to mention 37 team free-throw attempts on the night — the Coyotes’ strong second half wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit.
Next up, KC (13-15, 7-6 Summit League) heads back to Swinney Center for senior night against Omaha (13-15, 6-7 Summit). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on Feb. 24.
