KC Roos take North Dakota State to OT before losing; women’s skid hits 5 games

The Kansas City Roos couldn’t have come much closer to picking up an emotional road victory on Thursday night in North Dakota.

The Roos took host North Dakota State to overtime in Fargo before losing 82-78.

Andrew Morgan led NDSU (11-13, 4-5 Summit League) with 31 points. The Bison’s Boden Skunberg added 21 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

Jamar Brown led the Roos (10-15, 4-6) with 21 points and six rebounds. Teammate Jayson Petty added 13 points.

NDSU won the ball at tipoff and opened with a 5-0 run. Cameron Faas’ jumper tied it soon after. And those tense early minutes set the tone for a back-and-forth game.

The Roos looked capable of perhaps pulling away in the second half as they built an 11-point lead. But the Bison cut into Kansas City’s advantage and went ahead by a point at the 6:12 mark.

The Roos close out their road trip against North Dakota (15-10, 7-3) on Saturday. Tipoff is 1 p.m. in Grand Forks, N.D.

Women: N.D. State 70, KC Roos 59

The Roos’ losing streak reached five games Thursday evening at the Swinney Center.

KC’s Dominique Phillips and NDSU’s Heaven Hamling scored 15 points apiece. KC’s Elauni Bennett and NDSU’s Avery Koenen grabbed six rebounds each.

The Roos trailed 36-29 halftime. In the second half, the Roos could pull no closer than five points.

The Roos play host to North Dakota (8-15, 4-6) on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at the Swinney Center.
