Kansas City Roos men’s, women’s basketball swept by Summit League counterpart SDSU

The Kansas City Roos men’s basketball team fell to 2-4 in Summit League competition with a 75-66 loss to South Dakota State on Thursday at Frost Arena in Brookings, S.D.

Jamar Brown led the Roos (8-13 overall) with 17 points; Cameron Faas and Khristian Courseault followed with 11 and 10, respectively.

The host Jackrabbits, meanwhile, got a season-high 19 points from Luke Appel. And three other SDSU starters also scored in double-digits: Matt Mims had 15 points, Willi Kyle III had 13 and Charlie Easley had 11 to go along with a season-best 12 rebounds.

Despite going just 2-for-11 beyond the arc, the Jackrabbits (12-9, 5-1) still managed to shoot a decent 49.1% from the field overall. The Roos shot 36.4% overall, going 15 of 38 from 3-point range (39.5%).

KC’s Brown got the scoring started with a 3-pointer off a Jackrabbits turnover. It was back and forth early in the opening half until SDSU embarked on a 21-6 run that extended through the final eight minutes. At halftime, KC trailed 36-26.

The Roos battled back in the second half, knotting it at 66-all on Jeff Ngandu’s slam-dunk. But the Jackrabbits did all the scoring after that.

Kansas City will look to get back in the win column on Saturday night at the Swinney Center. The Roos will play host to South Dakota (9-11, 2-3) in a 7 p.m. game available via streaming through the Summit League Network.
