Kansas City Roos men’s, women’s hoops teams drop Summit League road games to St. Thomas
The Kansas City Roos men’s basketball team fizzled out in the second half in St. Paul, Minnesota on Sunday.
The result was a 77-56 loss to the St. Thomas Tommies in a Summit League game.
The Roos held a 33-32 lead at the break. But Kansas City made just seven of 25 shots (28%) from the field, including going 1 of 12 from 3-point range, in the second half. That was not enough against the Tommies, who outscored KC 45-23 in the half and cruised to the victory.
Babacar Diallo was the only Roo to score in double figures: 10 points. He also had six rebounds, three assists and a steal. Raheem Anthony scored a game-high 17 points for St. Thomas, which pushed its record to 10-5, 2-0 in conference.
The game marked the Roos’ first conference road game this season. Overall, Kansas City is 6-9 and 1-1 in the Summit League. The Roos opened conference play with a 77-60 home victory over Oral Roberts. Friday night.
Kansas City is set to play at Sacramento State Wednesday night.
Roos women 0-2 after loss to Tommies
The Kansas City Roos women’s team fared no better in its game against St. Thomas at Swinney Center.
St. Thomas outscored Kansas City 14-9 in the fourth quarter and held on for a 66-57 win.
Nariyah Simmons led the Roos with 12 points. She was 2-of-6 from 3-point range. She also had three assists and three rebounds but turned the ball over five times.
Alayna Contreras added 10 points for the Roos. But she, too, committed five turnovers.
The Roos (7-8, 0-2 Summit) will play host to Portland State at Swinney Center Wednesday.
