Kansas City Roos men’s basketball improves to 2-0 with blowout win over Saint Mary
Two games, two blowout victories.
That’s where things stand for the Kansas City Roos men’s basetball team at the start of the basketball season.
The Roos got to that second win in a 95-42 romp of Saint Mary at Swinney Center on Saturday night.
Kansas City rolled out to a 57-29 lead by halftime and cruised from there. The Roos defense surrendered only 13 points in the second half.
Kansas City, which shot 56.7% percent for the game (to the Spires’ 29.6%) got points from 13 players.
Jamar Brown led the way for the Roos with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. Brown was 3 of 4 on 3-pointers. Allen David Mukeba scored 13 points in 14 minutes for the Roos.
Tysen Brennan scored eight points for Saint Mary, which was playing its first game of the season.
Things will get more challenging for the Roos: Kansas City is set to square off against Baylor on Tuesday in Waco, Texas.
Roos women drop close one at UTEP
The Roos women were unable to follow up a season-opening victory at home against Bradley when they played UTEP on Saturday in El Paso, Texas. Kansas City was outscored 35-26 in the second half and lost 62-60.
UTEP, trailing by four, scored on a sequence on its final possession that went: made free throw, missed free throw, offensive rebound and old-fashioned 3-point play in taking the 62-60 lead. The Roos inbounded with 20 seconds left but were unable to convert a bucket. Nariyah Simmons led Kansas City with 15 points and eight rebounds.
