Kansas City Roos men’s basketball falls to 0-3 with blowout loss at No. 23 Illinois
The Kansas City Roos men’s basketball team faced its second big-time Power Five opponent in as many games. This one was against a ranked opponent.
Illinois, No. 23 in The Associated Press rankings, defeated the Roos, 86-48, in Urbana-Champaign, Ill., on Friday night.
With the loss, Kansas City fell to 0-3 on the season. The Illini improved to 2-0.
The Roos lost at LSU, 74-63, on Wednesday.
Unlike the game against LSU, Kansas City had a difficult time keeping pace with the Illini. Illinois led 39-23 at the break and never looked back.
Shemarri Allen scored 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Roos. He was the only Roo in double figures in scoring.
Dain Dainja had 20 points and 15 rebounds for the Illini.
Kansas City will play host to Calvary Bible on Monday and then will travel to Kansas State for a game against the Wildcats.

Meanwhile, the Kansas City Roos women’s team took care of business on Friday night at Swinney Center.
Sanaa’ St. Andre led the way with 22 points, seven assists and five rebounds. She also had nine turnovers. Gia Adams scored a game-high 27 points for Tennessee State.
Kansas City broke open the game with a 21-14 advantage in the third quarter. With the victory, the Roos improved to 2-0 on the season. Tennessee State fell to 1-1.
Kansas City women’s basketball will play host to UTEP at Swinney Center on Sunday.
