Kansas City Roos’ three-game winning streak snapped by first-place South Dakota State

The Kansas City Roos men’s basketball team has been a tough team to handle lately in Summit League play.

The Roos had won three straight and seven out of their last eight heading into a Saturday night showdown with South Dakota State.

It was South Dakota State, though, the top team in the Summit League, that kept up its winning ways. Baylor Scheierman had 25 points as South Dakota State stretched its winning streak to 18 games, beating the Roos 86-75 at Swinney Center.

Josiah Allick tied a season high with 21 points and had seven rebounds for the Roos (19-11, 12-6 in the Summit). Evan Gilyard II added 18 points, and Arkel Lamar had 17 points for KC.

Douglas Wilson had 17 points and seven rebounds for South Dakota State (27-4, 18-0 Summit League). Charlie Easley added 14 points. Zeke Mayo had 12 points.

The Jackrabbits swept the regular-season series with the Roos.. South Dakota State defeated Kansas City 89-57 on Dec. 20.

The Summit League tournament is set to kick off on March 5 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Roos women fall to Jackrabbits as well: The KC Roos women also closed out the regular season with a loss at Brookings, S.D., to South Dakota State 94-62. Brooklyn McDavid scored 18 points for KC, 22-7 and 12-6 in the Summit League. South Dakota State improved to 21-8, 17-1.
