KC Roos men close out WAC play with victory at Utah Valley

The Kansas City Roos finished Western Athletic Conference play with a winning record at 8-7.

The Roos made sure of that on Thursday night in Orem, Utah, with a 61-51 victory over Utah Valley.

It was Kansas City’s fourth straight win, and it pushed the Roos’ overall record to 16-14.

The Roos will get a chance to continue their winning ways at the WAC tournament, which is set to begin March 12 in Las Vegas. The Roos have canceled their trip to Seattle for what was to be their regular-season finale on Saturday.

Kansas City spoiled Utah Valley’s senior night on Thursday by taking control of the game early. Utah Valley was able to hang around as the Roos had a 37-28 halftime lead.

Kansas City got that lead to as big as 19 points at 60-41 with just under five minutes left in the game. KC held Utah Valley to 23 points in the second half, a season low for the Wolverines.

Brandon McKissic led the way for the Roos on offense with 18 points, and Jordan Giles finished with 14. Javan White had a team-high eight rebounds for Kansas City,.

The Roos swept the season series against the Wolverines: Kansas City beat Utah Valley 68-63 on Jan. 4 at Swinney Center.
