Roos bust three-game skid with victory at Cal State Bakersfield
Trips to California have been good to the Kansas City Roos this season.
Brandon McKissic scored a game-high 20 points on Saturday night as Kansas City won at Cal State Bakersfield 59-53 and improved to 2-0 in the state of California this season.
In each of those cases, the California wins snapped a troubling losing streak. With Saturday’s victory, the Roos put an end to a three-game skid. With a 67-57 triumph at California Baptist in Riverside on Jan. 25, Kansas City put to rest a four-game skid, the longest of the season.
With Saturday’s win, the Roos improved to 13-14 on the season and 5-7 in Western Athletic Conference play. Cal State Bakersfield, meanwhile is now 11-15 and 5-6 in the WAC.
Kansas City led 25-23 at the break and got things going offensively early in the second half. The Roos built a couple of leads of up to six points, as was the final margin of victory, but the Roadrunners were not easy to put away.
To go along with McKissic’s 20, Rob Whitfield added 15 points, Whitfield made 3 of 7 three-pointers.
Kansas City made 21 of 46 shots (45.7 percent), while Cal State Bakersfield ended up 19 of 48 for 39.6 percent.
Next up for Kansas City is a California team again, but this time at Swinney Center: The Roos are set to play host to California Baptist on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
