Kansas City Roos’ skid reaches three games with overtime loss at Grand Canyon
The Kansas City Roos’ third overtime game of the season was their first OT game that came on the road. The road was not kind to them.
Kansas City lost in overtime 71-66 to Grand Canyon at GCU Arena in Phoenix on Thursday night.
Not only was it a tough OT defeat for the Roos, it was also their third straight loss overall. It dropped them to 12-14 on the season and to 4-7 in the Western Athletic Conference.
Grand Canyon pushed its record to 11-13 and 6-4 in the WAC. And the Antelopes, who beat the Roos 69-66 on Jan. 19 in Kansas City, completed the regular-season sweep of KC.
Rob Whitfield scored 13 points for KC on Thursday, while Jordan Giles added 12. Alessandro Lever scored a game-high 18 points for the Antelopes.
The Roos — who made 29 of 63 shots from the field — got off 40 more shots from the floor than the Antelopes (19-43), but it was Grand Canyon that was able to get to the free-throw line: The Antelopes made 28 of 36 free throws to the Roos’ 3-8.
Kansas City made 5 of 23 (21.7 percent) three-point shots, while Grand Canyon made 5-14 (35.7 percent). The Antelopes out-rebounded the Roos 35-32.
Earlier this season, the Roos beat Seattle in triple overtime, 90-86 at Swinney Center, but lost at Swinney in OT 74-64 to California State Bakersfield.
It’s to Bakersfield the Roos jump to next, for a game against the Roadrunners on Saturday night.
