KC Roos win third in a row and move above .500 with victory at Chicago State
Rob Whitfield hit five three-pointers and scored 21 points as the Kansas City Roos beat Chicago State 69-51 on Saturday.
Jordan Giles scored 12 points for the Roos (12-11, 4-4 Western Athletic Conference), which won their third straight. Josiah Allick added 10 points and Javan White had eight rebounds.
The Roos scored the first 15 points of the game, shot 57% in the first half when they made 8 of 12 three-pointers, and led 41-24. They finished 8 of 15 from distance and shot 46%.
Kansas City hit five of its first six shots, including all three three-pointers before the Cougars had a pair of free throws at 4:18 into the game. The Roos made a layup and a fourth three-pointer before Xavier Johnson ended the 0 for 6, four turnover drought with a jumper at 14:12.
Solomon Hunt had 14 points for the Cougars (4-19, 0-8), whose conference losing streak is now 27 games. Chicago State’s last WAC win came against the Roos, 96-82 on March 3, 2018.
